Opening a Bank Account
Any foreign national desiring to open a bank account in Korea must visit a bank with his/her own alien registration card and seal
If a seal is not available, opening a bank account can be done using his/her signature, however in the case that the bank account is opened in this way, no subsequent transactions over the counter at the bank are permitted for anyone other than the person who opened the account. When opening a bank account, various documents such as identification may be requested.
※ Bank opening hours are usually from 09:00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m.
Automated Teller Machine
ATMs can be used for account deposits, withdrawals, and money transfers. Loan and insurance premium payments can also be made at additional special-purpose ATMs. ATM use requires a magnetic-strip bankbook or IC-chip bank card (debit or·credit). ATM can be found mostly in branches of banks, subway stations with heavy foot traffic, terminals and shopping centers. Most of the machines are kept in operation from early in the morning until late in the evening, and some of them are kept in operation for 24 hours a day.
